café des arts

This cafe/bar in the Paquis district became a hip cafe. Rue des Pâquis 17.

calm

This cute little cafe in Carouge with an amazing beautiful garden in the back is called Calm which means in French "quiet", but at the same time it stands for "Comme à la maison" - like at home. This is one of the cafes that is open Sundays - an important fact in Geneva. The brunch seems to be good, but over-priced. Rue Ancienne 36.

bistr'ok

This is the bistro in Rhîno, the squat in Geneva. You can eat there lunch for very cheap and in the evenings they have sometimes little concerts of local bands or parties for a good cause. It is a place you have to got as long as it is still there, because even in Geneva, squats aren't tolerated that much anymore. And the Rhîno even became kind of a landmark. The facade is always changing, but the red horn (of the Rhîno) is always there. I like the place even more, because it was around the corner of my apartment. Boulevard des Philosophes, 24.

la ferblanterie

This cafe is named after its former function as an ironmonger’s shop. It is a very comfortable and nice cafe. Since the university is nearby a lot of students are hanging out there. Rue de l'Ecole-de-Médecine 8.

cafe la fleur de lys

It is a typical student cafe. You can play games, read newspapers or just hang out with your friends in one of their sofas and talk about your classes and other things you're concerned about as a student. They are specialized in "sirop", a non alcoholic drink that is made of the sirop's flavor and water. They have a wide selection of different flavors. I still like to hang out there even though my student life is over. Rue de l'Ecole-de-Médecine 7.

la sixième heure

This is a tearoom with secondhand furniture in it. And if you like the table or the lamp or the chair you are sitting on, you can look for the price or ask them and pay not only for the coffee but also for the furniture. Next time you are there, they will have the table you bought replaced with something new. The prices of the tea as well as the furniture aren't too cheap though... Place des Philosophes 6.

les recyclables

The concept of this cafe is a second hand bookstore where you can start reading the book with a cup of tea and a good cake (their cakes are good, also their lunches) and see if you really like the book. Rue de Carouge 53.

remor

I used to go there with my aunt. It is a tearoom, where a lot of students are hanging out too. Especially in the summer when you can sit outside and observe the things happening at the Place du Cirque. Place du Cirque 3.
