Zeitgeist

As you enter, you think you're in a typical American biker dive, but the beer garden almost under the highway in the back could be in Berlin and definitely has its charm.  199 Valencia Street.

Martuni's

Gar bar on the corner of Valencia & Market.  Allegedly the best martinis and very nice.  4 Valencia Street.

Minna Street Gallery

A gallery that turns into a club from 5 - 10 PM on Wednesday.  Techno DJs, at least on the night I was there, but a cool venue.  Definitely worth checking out.  Drinks not too expensive.  Entry $5.  111 Minna Street.

Rickshaw Stop

Nice mid-sized club with frequent indie shows.  155 Fell Street.

Anu

A good place to go after 111 Minna finishes.  Small, but cute.  The dance floor is a cube with Che Guevaras on the walls.  The music was good, also dance, but better than in 111 Minna.  Really good DJs.  Drinks also not so expensive.  Free entry.  43 6th Street.

Sadie's Flying Elephant

Dive bar at Potrero and Mariposa.  Sofas.  Books.  Pool tables.  The atmosphere is a bit messy, like cave12 in Geneva.  491 Potrero Avenue.

Cafe du Nord

Nice Parisian club in the Castro, also with frequent indie acts.   2174 Market Street.

Hemlock Tavern

Pub with a nice atmosphere and a small smoking room.  Concerts in the back room.  Very nice.  1131 Polk Street.

Luggage Store Gallery

Experimental concerts in the style of cave12.  Art, too.  1007 Market Street.
