The Independent

A normal club, I would say.  Seating on the sides, a bar in the back, and a stage in front.  They have a good program, mostly rock and hardcore.  (I saw Melt Banana and The Boredomes there.)  628 Divisadero Street.

Bimbo's 365 Club

Probably an old theater.  It looks like a venue from the 20s or 30s.  Really cool.  1025 Columbus Avenue.

Bottom of the Hill

Small club played by upcoming bands that will be big in a few years.  Inside a house.  Decor: Nothing special, but cool.  Crowd: Appears to be a certain bunch of regulars.  1233 17th Street.

The Fillmore

Really amazing.  Every important rock ban has played here.  At the end of the concert you get a free poster.  Posters from past concerts cover the walls upstairs, where there is also a small, cute bar.  A unique experience, but it must have been better in the 60s.  1805 Geary Boulevard.

The Concourse at the San Francisco Design Center

Cool, old factory, but a bit big for concerts.  Nevertheless, very good.  635 8th Street.

The Hotel Utah Saloon

Definitely a very good selection of small bands.  (I saw Saddle Creek's Maria Taylor.)  The small basement room is very nice, too.  The bar is only average, with a TV that's a bit too reminiscent of a sports bar.  Poor acoustics.  500 4th Street.
