There are many clubs in the city, but most of them are for electronic music (Rohstofflager, Toni Molkerei). For concerts there are some too, but honestly I don't like any of them that much. I would recommend to check out the concert venues in Winterthur, a city that is only about 20 minutes away and seems to have the better concerts at the moment. I might add some venues of Winterthur later.

Abart

Here I used to see many bands as a teenager, now I am honestly feeling to old to go there. Furthermore, I never really liked the layout of the room. But it is a small club and has still a decent program. Manessestrasse 170.

Mascotte

This is a newer concert venue (meaning that it wasn't existing when I was a teenager). I don't like the music, the sound is not good, but they have some good bands playing there... Theaterstrasse 10.

Moods

This is a jazz club, hosts some indie concerts too though. I will go and see, for example, Coco Rosie in June there and I am really looking forward to it. I like the room in an old ship building house that also host an established theater and a restaurant that I have heard is really good. Schiffbaustrasse 6.

Rote Fabrik

This is an old factory (red factory) at the edge of the city (but directly at the lake which makes the trip worth!). It hosts two concert halls, a gallery, a theater and a restaurant. They used to have the big indie bands playing there like sonic youth. Unfortunately, their program has gotten worse, respectively they can't get the good bands anymore. I don't know if it is because they don't get enough money from the city or if they just mess it up. Nevertheless, it is really nice to sit at the lake and have a beer on a summer evening there. And the food in the Ziegel oh Lac (the name is a reference to the luxury hotel "Baur au Lac" in Zurich) is good with very fair prices. I still like the place very much. Seestrasse 395.
